Location Pages

What is a Location Page?

A location page is a single page on a website that gives pertinent information about a local business for a location that the business does not have a physical presence but does business there. Location pages can also be created if a business has multiple physical locations in other cities or towns

For example, a moving company has a physical location in a city, but they want to do business in surrounding cities and towns where they don’t have a physical location. Location pages are perfect for service-type business where they come to the client to perform their service.

Let’s say you have a plumbing business in Dallas, Texas but you want to service customers in nearby cities. A location page could be created for Plano so your page will show up in the search results if someone typed “plumbing services Plano, TX.”

Benefits of Having Location Pages

Your business is never going to rank for a specific city or town without creating a landing page for that location. Simply mentioning you do business in Plano, TX is not going to get you ranking for that location.

You will probably see other companies like yours using location pages targeting the same city you are. If you already have a website, a location page, in the form of a landing page, can be created without having to buy a new domain for each location just to create a one-page website.

Optimizing for locations online is a win-win situation. “Optimize” is the key word here. There are many poorly optimized landing pages trying rank for a specific location but fail.

At Blue Lacy SEO we have been studying and learning how to optimize location pages for a good while. While we have perfected the art of creating landing pages, we are still learning how Google ranks these pages.

For instance, we have learned not to target too many keywords in one location page. We rely on meticulous keyword research for 2 or 3 major terms that people are searching. This called search engine optimization (SEO). It is the process of affecting the visibility of a web page in a search engine’s unpaid results—often referred to as “natural,” “organic,” or “earned” results.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect?

The answer to that question is very subjective one. It depends on many factors, the most important one being the competition. The more competition, the harder it is to rank. It is easy to understand if 100 web pages are targeting the same group of keywords, it will be harder to rank.

Another important factor is the authority of the company’s website for that landing page they have created. For example, big moving companies like Allied Moving or Three Men a Truck are nationally known and do business in many cities across the U.S. They have built up a lot of authority in Google’s eyes. Beating companies like these are going to be tougher.

We are not trying to be negative or trying to set you up for failure. In fact, we have had great success in creating local location pages for clients. We cannot guarantee exactly where you will end up in Google’s ranking. Anyone who says they can guarantee you will be ranked #1 is just lying. No one can accurately predict where Google will rank a web page.
